The purpose of this blog site is to offer a tangible resource for Social Science teachers in the 7th-12th grade settings. This blog provides websites, lesson plans, activities and ideas that integrate vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension into Social Science content. As teachers, we have a lot on our list in terms of material that needs to be covered. It is imperative that we infuse vocabulary knowledge into our lessons as a means to elicit higher level understanding, thinking and execution of material. Students need a be offered multiple opportunities to learn and engage in vocabulary acquisition. Please look at my post titled, "Why vocabulary knowledge". You will find a video that gives you solid exposure to how and why vocabulary acquisition in content area is so pertinent.
Be advised that the lesson plans on this site refer to California Common Core Standards. If you teach in another state please visit your state education webpage to see how the lesson plans fit into your state standards.
